Dr Stuart Derbyshire, Reader in Psychology at the University of Birmingham, will explore the often wild claims made on behalf of ‘neuroscience’ in order to separate a great intellectual achievement from what we can call ‘neuro-hype’ or what Professor Ray Tallis (a previous Salon speaker) has labelled ‘Neurotrash’.
